SGBN-1 Discussion Notes: Planning

Feb. 12, 2006 discussion on moving towards a standard and planning the next steps

(Discussions moderated and notes taken by M. Hucka.)

Task/goal/event Target date
Collect examples of notations and cases End of April
Peter Ghazal (Edingburgh group) and Sarala Dissanayake (CellML group) will evaluate and synthesize. They will start with what Sarala has already done in the process of working on visualization for CellML. They will add and extend this. Mike Hucka will assist in putting materials online and creating survey forms. Huaiyu Mi will be people chaser and task master for this, nagging people in other groups to supply examples and case studies.
Teleconference End of April
When the collection task above is done, we will attempt to have a teleconference to take stock of the results and plan further goals.
Draft proposals Before SBGN-2
We should develop a standard documentation format for specifications (i.e., a document template) so that different notation proposals can all be presented in a similar way. This might put each symbol on a separate page, with a name, abstract, description, examples, etc. These alternative proposals should be put online on SBGN.org for everyone to examine side-by-side.
Next meeting: SBGN-2 October 7 @ ICSB 2006
We will plan on having a 1-day workshop in Yokohama or Tokyo immediately before ICSB 2006, on October 7 (the day before the tutorial day at ICSB, to avoid colliding with possible tutorial commitments by people). This will be called SBGN-2.
Next 2-day workshop: SBGN-3 March or April 2007
The Edinburgh group has tentatively volunteered to host the next full SBGN workshop, to be named SBGN-3. The EML group has offered to act as a back-up option in case the workshop cannot be held at Edinburgh. The Auckland group has offered host a future SBGN meeting (SBGN-5?).
